Coast To Coast AM - December 18, 2015 Bigfoot, UFOs, & Mysterious Disappearances
Filling in for George, guest host Jimmy Church talked with Micah Hanks,
who is representative of a younger generation of researchers with a
broad view of the paranormal and its interconnectedness. With an
interested but skeptical approach, Hanks says, “What I hope to foster in
people is the proper way to go about studying this subject.” For
instance, his interest in Bigfoot as a real phenomenon is not dampened
by his skepticism regarding the famous 1967 Patterson-Gimlin film, which
he says does not provide conclusive proof that the cryptid exists.
Hanks bristles at the designation “Ufologist,” and prefers to call himself a writer and researcher who tries to “find the facts and relate them in reliable and intelligent ways.” He discussed the famous 1978 Fredrick Valentich UFO sighting and aircraft disappearance but discounted the standard explanation that the pilot was disoriented or suicidal. Hanks actually got in touch with Valentich’s girlfriend and found out that the recordings of his last radio transmissions were mysteriously edited before release. He also mentioned historical reports by sailors of ghostly red lights in the same general area of the Australian coast.
Hanks described the MH370 aircraft mystery as “probably the single greatest disappearance of our time.” Although he currently thinks that the plane almost certainly went down somewhere in the Indian Ocean, the fact that the flight data recorder was shut down in mid-flight is one of the more suspicious aspects of the case. One caller brought up the allegation that there were three Chinese scientists on the flight that may have had a patent that was valuable enough to steal. Hanks seriously doubts other scenarios that have been brought up in the past, such as aliens, time travel, or some sort of hijacking.

Coast To Coast AM - December 9, 2015 Kecksburg UFO & Cryptids
In the first half, paranormal investigator Stan Gordon discussed UFO and cryptozoological phenomena including numerous Bigfoot and Thunderbird reports, mystery cats, and also shared an update on the famous Kecksburg incident that occurred 50 years ago tonight. On December 9, 1965 a mysterious acorn-shaped fiery object fell from the sky near Kecksburg, PA (view mock-up photo). A witness, volunteer fireman Jim Romansky, described seeing unusual symbols or markings on the object, while another witness said he touched it, and it was as smooth as glass.
A recent theory suggested that the Kecksburg object may have been a GE Mark 2 Reentry vehicle, a secretive spy capsule, but Gordon showed photos of such a vehicle to Romansky, and he said there was not much resemblance. Reports of giant birds have been made in the Pennsylvania area for years, said Gordon. Descriptions include wingspans of 10 to 20 ft., with some of the birds looking like giant bats with leathery skin, while others appearing prehistoric like a pterodactyl. One area that consistently gets strange phenomena reports is the heavily wooded Chestnut Ridge, particularly in Fayette County, he noted. Intriguingly, there are a number of well-documented cases where Bigfoot and UFOs were seen together at the same time and place, he added.

Krampus The Christmas Demon
Krampus and Saint Nicholas visit a Viennese home in 1896. |
True Monsters Season 1 Episode 1 (S01E01... by BroathersInArms
SANTA'S SATANIC SIDEKICK, KRAMPUS, INVADES AMERICA
BY HUGH HART
The holidays get a new kind of hellish with the arrival of Santa's evil twin, Krampus.
With his devil-like hoof, tail, serpentine tongue, whipping stick, and sack full of misbehaving kids, Krampus emerged as Northern Europe's bad cop to kindly Saint Nicholas more than three centuries ago. But when Saint Nick migrated to the United States in the 1800s and morphed into fat, jolly Santa Claus, Krampus stayed behind.
COMING TO AMERICA
Krampus finally gets his close-up in America thanks in part to Monte Beauchamp. The Chicago comic book publisher launched the cult of Krampus after he came across a cache of antique postcards printed in Germany 100 years ago during the golden age of chromolithography.
The now-obsolete printing technique produced unusually rich colors that gave rise to a fantasy postcard craze that swept Europe in the late 1800s and made Krampus something of a holiday greeting superstar.
"The illustrations of Krampus exuded great character and imagination," says Beauchamp. "I'd never seen postcards printed that well before and I really liked the whole fantasy element."
Emboldened by reader response to Krampus card art published in his 2001 BLAB! comic book, Beauchamp compiled Krampus: The Devil of Christmas followed by a greeting card collection. Last month, he expanded the brand with playing cards and the Krampus Sticker Book (Last Gasp).
MERRY, SCARY CHRISTMAS
Besides Krampus, Europe's dark fairy tale tradition also spawned such holiday freaks as Dutch kidnapper Zwart Piete, Czechoslovakia's child-beating evil spirt Cert and disheveled German creep Knecht Ruprecht. Beauchamp reckons Americans are finally in the mood for some Krampus-inflicted shock treatment. "Krampus brings a little bit of angst to Christmas when people imagine there's this dark, foreboding figure out there who's watching your every move. If you do something bad, you may disappear and be cast into the flames of hell."

Monsters and Mysteries in America - S01E01 - Appalachia - Full Episode
A segment details the adventures of two friends, Ricky Joyce and Dakota Cheeks, who go on a weekend hunting trip in Kentucky where they encounter more than deer.More:
“It was tall, but kind of hunched over,” says Cheeks, of the creature they say menaced them. “It was big, it was white.”
He tells the camera that the animal was “at least” 9 feet tall and, that it released an “ungodly, gut-curling growl” and “came straight at us.”
“We saw Sheepsquatch, that’s what we saw,” he says with certainty. This was not the timid Sheepsquatch of tales past.
‘I like to stay open to the possibility of strange things out there. And Sheepsquatch is one of the stranger things I’ve heard of.” The episode earned dings from both critics and cryptozoology enthusiasts.
“Sheepsquatch? Are you F*n kidding me with this crap?,” wrote one commenter on the website Bigfoot Buzz.
[Kurt Mcoy, author of "White Things: West Virginia's Weird White Monsters."] says this exposes a friction within the cryptozoology community.
“There are a lot of people who take paranormal investigation and cryptozoology very seriously,” he says. “They don’t like anything that seems goofy or strange or is obviously unnatural. Because what they’re pushing is that there are actual undiscovered animals out there.”
McCoy says there are lots of weird sightings out there that can’t be defined. There are similar monsters like Sheepsquatch all over the place: There’s the Maryland Goat Man and The Pope Lick Monster in Kentucky (part man, part goat, part sheep), for instance.
But McCoy also isn’t up nights, wondering if the evidence sticks.
“People ask me if I believe that things are real,” he says. “I go with, if you believe something than you’ve made up your mind abut it. And I’m really not looking to solve mysteries. I like that there are things in the world that just aren’t easily solved, that there are mysteries out there that we just don’t understand yet. So I like to stay open to the possibility of strange things out there. And Sheepsquatch is one of the stranger things I’ve heard of.”
